How a flux capture session differs from sector-level workflow: multiple revolutions, weak-bit visualization, and off-track reads
Flux capture is a different animal than the calibrated sector-level strategy from Part 3. You're capturing multiple revolutions of the same track, visualizing weak bits, and sometimes intentionally reading off-track to extract every scrap of data.
Flux-Level Techniques
- Multiple Revolutions - Spin the platter 5+ times per track to catch timing variations
- Weak Bit Heat Maps - Visualize which bit positions are unreliable
- Half-Track Reads - Capture between standard tracks where protection hides data
- Off-Track Reads - Sometimes worth the time; sometimes a rabbit hole
Flux captures demand more post-processing work, but they capture reality at the magnetic level.
